Sainte-Croix-sur-Verdon, like a precious jewel set between the azure sky and the turquoise waters of the lake it overlooks, clings proudly to its rocky spur, rising from the slopes of the Valensole Plateau.

This hilltop village, quintessentially Provençal, gracefully follows the contours of its promontory. The village could have met a very different fate: originally threatened by the dam project, it was to be engulfed by the rising waters. But the determination of its inhabitants saved Sainte-Croix, as well as the village of Bauduen on the opposite shore, to the great delight of today’s holidaymakers.

Above Sainte-Croix, the Valensole Plateau unfolds a sea of another kind: vast fields of lavandin, whose blooming between mid-June and mid-July offers visitors an unforgettable visual and aromatic spectacle.
