The Gorges du Gardon between Nîmes, Uzès and Pont du Gard

The Gorges du Gardon lie in the Gard, between Nîmes, Uzès and the Pont du Gard. The Gardon crosses a limestone massif here, forming meanders, cliffs and wooded sections. The site belongs to the Grands Sites de France network.

Cliffs, garrigue and river

The gorges include cliffs that can reach about 150 metres, garrigue slopes, woodland and pebble beaches. The Gardon’s water level varies greatly with seasons and rainfall events. This variation is part of the site’s character and makes it important to check conditions before going out.

Walking, canoeing and bathing

The gorges can be explored on foot by several paths, especially around Collias, Sanilhac-Sagriès and Poulx. Canoeing is common in season on some sections, with routes towards the Pont du Gard depending on water levels. Bathing is possible in some places, while respecting access, regulations and safety conditions.

Collias, Castillon-du-Gard and Pont du Gard

Collias is often used as an access point for water activities and paths. Castillon-du-Gard provides a village stop near the Roman site. Further downstream, the Pont du Gard connects the gorges with the history of the Nîmes aqueduct and links natural landscape with ancient heritage.
